Freaquently Asked Question

The attendees’ backgrounds are distributed between approximately 70% technical (developers, coders, designers) and 30% business (marketing, finance, law). What unites all attendees is a common interest in technopreneurship and how we can apply technology to have a positive social impact. If this sounds like you, this is the event for you!

We want to ensure that we gather the most talented and passionate technopreneurs - and that we have a balanced amount of techies, designers and business enthusiasts. This will allow you to build successful and diversified teams. Here is an overview of what we are looking after: 1) Technical prowess (for techies); 2) Strong business acumen (for business); 3) Creative Flair and Stellar Design Skills (for creative); 4) Initiative; 5) Contribution to community; 6) Team & cultural fit; 7)Level of English (all sessions will be delivered in English so if you do not speak it well then you will not be able to benefit optimally from the weekend). As soon as we have received your application and screened it we will get back to you ASAP.

Apart from the organizers, mentors, and speakers, everyone who attends the event is expected to participate on a team. This is important not only to preserve the ‘vibe’ of the weekend but also to minimize distractions/disruptions for working teams. However we will make a limited amount of tickets available for the final ceremony and following networking dinner.

It’s free to apply to Hack4Egypt! If you are accepted, we ask that you contribute 100EGP as a participant fee to the hackathon. The majority of your ticket price goes towards paying the meals, snacks, and drinks that we provide over the weekend. You can stay at the venue for free if you bring your own sleeping bag. We rely on local sponsorships to help keep ticket prices low while keeping the value of the event high. We do not provide any financial sponsorships nor do we cover any flights or VISA expenses. We will collect the money onsite.

Bring your laptop, power cord, business cards and lots of creative energy and positive vibes! Remember a sleeping bag if you wish to stay at the venue ;)

We are searching for creating web or mobile apps that you believe will have a positive impact on society and that are addressing the HEAT sectors (health, education, agriculture and transportation). Any business ideas that fall within these areas are eligible. We are not searching for the next Facebook or for a copy-paste idea from the Silicon Valley. We want to support the realization of ideas that will make sense for Egypt - and ultimately contribute with a positive societal impact.

Depending on the number of ideas pitched and the schedule, you may or may not be able to pitch multiple ideas. Send us an email at info@hackamena.com so we can coordinate this.

No. It is up to you and your team to manage time. Some teams may choose to work all night and day, but this is by no means obligatory or expected. The most important thing is that your prototype and pitch are ready to be presented on Saturday!

By Saturday, It is required that you have developed a fully functional prototype. On Saturday you will be judged upon: Social Impact and Scalability, Business Model, Prototype, Execution and Team Collaboration.
